Resin Bonding (Composite Bonding)

Resin bonding (also known as composite veneers)  is a technique where tooth coloured filling material can be permanently bonded to your teeth and is just one of the many cosmetic dentistry options that are available at Craigentinny Dental Care. Generally this is considered as a tooth kind form of cosmetic dentistry. Treatment is not onerous and this is an option favoured by patients of a more nervous disposition, as  it usually does not involve any injections and can be completed in a single treatment session.   The process involves first etching you teeth with a special gel then building up thin layers of “resin” before adding the white composite material. Eventually a very bright light is used to make everything set.

Resin Bonding (Composite Bonding)  can be used to cover up areas of discolouration or surface defects in front teeth. It can also be used to close small spaces between teeth or address teeth that appear twisted or rotated. M ore extensive “smile makeovers” are also possible with this approach although additional planning is required.

Resin Bonding (Composite Bonding) can do almost anything that porcelain veneers can however, unlike porcelain veneers the underlying tooth is usually left untouched. Additionally it is possible to “refine” or adjust a resin bonding option slightly after placement in ways that are simply not possible with an all porcelain restoration.  Generally the appearance of either treatment is similar, however resin bonding does require a little more maintenance to keep the finished result looking its best.

Advantages of Resin Bonding (Composite Bonding)

  • usually lower treatment costs
