What do you dislike most
about having a filling? Is it the numb feeling, the noise, the vibration
or just keeping your mouth open for a long time?
Ozone Treatment is a
totally new hi-tech approach to treating tooth decay and might just change the way you
feel about dentistry.
It is not a magic cure all
but we believe it will change the way that dentistry is delivered over the
next few years.
We were among the first
dental practices in Scotland to offer this injection free treatment.

Ozone is a natural
substance that is present in the environment all around us. Part
of that fresh feeling after an electrical storm is due to Ozone
it also forms part of
the protective layer round the earth that shields us from the suns harmful
radiation.
It is also a strong disinfecting
agent that has the power to kill 99% of bacteria,
fungi and viruses very rapidly. It is of particular use to us in
dentistry because tooth decay is caused by the invasion of our teeth
by some of the bacteria that live in our mouths. The bacteria produce
acids which, over time demineralise (destroy) healthy tooth and will
eventually produce a cavity.
Treatment with Ozone kills all
of the harmful bacteria that build up in a decayed area almost
immediately. Once all of the harmful bacteria within the tooth have
been destroyed special mouthwashes are used for a few weeks to
remineralise (repair) the decayed portion of your tooth. All this is
possible without the need for any injections or drilling. At present
the uses for Ozone are limited however
your dentist will be able to advise you on your suitability.
Previous
research has demonstrated that areas of decay that are repaired via
remineralisation are more resistant to tooth decay in future.
This hi-tech treatment involves no
injections, little or no drilling and the whole procedure is totally painless. Typically a tooth can
be treated in 2-4 visits where Ozone is applied to the tooth for
about 1 minute each time.
