Welcome to the  Newsletter for July 2005. Despite the recent sunny weather, your dental team have been hard at work and managed to resist the lure of sunbathing in the back garden of the practice. (Apparently it causes wrinkles anyway!) There has been a lot of development  going on at the practice in the last few months so hopefully we can bring you up to date on  the most recent additions to the range of services that we  offer as well as a few additions to our web site which you may find useful. So without further delay lets get to the news.

Never forget another appointment!

Although  many people would love to forget about the dentist, we hope that as a member of  the Craigentinny Dental Health Centre you feel a little differently. You may recall a a survey that we carried out at the end of last year asking our newsletter readers if they would be  interested in receiving e-mail reminders of  upcoming  appointments. We received a huge amount of positive feedback on this and after several months of preparation and testing this service is now available. All appointment reminder e-mails are sent to four days before the scheduled appointment.

We are now offering our patients the opportunity to request non urgent appointments by e-mail also. There is a link permanently on the front page of our web site at www.craigentinny.co.uk which takes you to the appointment request page. Although this does not replace our highly capable reception team, we hope the ability to request  an appointment outside practice hours will make communicating  with the practice easier for you.  We will aim to reply to all enquiries within 36 hours Monday to Friday.  If you are experiencing any kind of discomfort which you feel requires more urgent attention please contact us by telephone. 

Campaign 18-Zero- Update

 We mentioned Campaign18-Zero in our last newsletter.  The aim is to help all of our child patients reach the age of 18 with no decay, fillings or missing teeth. For any children who may already have experienced decay the goal is to help  prevent any new decay and further fillings or missing teeth. 

We completed a series of visits to nurseries in the local area providing training and information on dental first aid. We are now hoping to organise further visits with local playgroups, nurseries and parent and toddler groups. The purpose of these visits is to spend a short time updating parents and carers on the most up to date and effective means of preventing dental problems specifically tooth decay and premature tooth loss. These sessions can be designed to fit into your available time and will hopefully provide some practical tips  and tricks that you can use immediately. If you would like  us to visit your playgroup, nursery, or mother and toddlers group please do get in touch using the form below. These sessions are available without charge as part of our commitment to improving the dental health of the local community. We look forward to hearing from you.

 Whats New?  - Quick Start Whitening

Would you like whiter teeth? With our new whitening system tooth bleaching is now faster and more affordable than ever before.  Many patients have been delighted with  results achieved by using  our at home whitening system which was introduced several  years ago. In response to questions from our patients we have looked in detail at  the one hour whitening systems that are available. As a  result of this we  discovered a new product that can be used to kick start the whitening process.  Many “instant” whitening systems rely on lights or lasers to make them work. We were not keen on these as the lights and lasers increase the cost for patients  without making your teeth any  whiter  than existing methods. At last there is an alternative. 

Our fast start whitening system takes the form of  a gel which is applied to your teeth by one of our dentists. We use  a custom made whitening tray to make sure none of the material goes astray. No lights or lasers are required.  It is left in place for 40 minutes and then removed. This boosts the bleaching process and gets things off to a fast start. It is then  followed with just  3-5 evenings wear  of our new at home system. 

The Fast Start procedure is not suitable for everyone but your dentist, hygienist or care nurse will be able to advise if you wish to know more. Or order the latest information sheet on line below.

Our congratulations go to  Care Nurse Jane Lindsay and her husband who have just become parents for the first time. Jane recently gave birth to baby William. Rumour has it Jane has already started a dental health programme  for their new arrival! Both mum and baby are doing well.
