Welcome

Welcome to the  Newsletter for February 2005. This months newsletter has the result of our readers survey that we conducted at the end of last year. Your feedback has helped  to shape some of the services that we will be introducing this year. We also have news of an exciting new product that has just arrived in the UK that might ease the pain of  sensitive teeth. Finally this month we have overhauled our phone system. Our improvements are designed to reduce the number of times that you experience an engaged tone when you call up, don't worry though we are not resorting to infuriating voice mailboxes, there will still be a real person on the end of each line. Please let us know how we are doing!

Enjoy the newsletter

Your Views- Appointment Reminders

Thank you to everyone who voted in our patients "poll" at the end of last year. As you may remember we asked whether receiving your appointment reminders by e-mail or SMS text messaging to a mobile phone would be of help. Your views have been really helpful to us. The results were;

Patients who would be happy to  to receive e-mail  appointment reminders 91%

Patients who would like to receive SMS Text reminders 62%

The only issue that arose was how far in advance of the appointment you would like to receive the reminder.

13% of you said    1 day in advance

27% of you said    2 days in advance

40% of you said    3 days in advance

13% of you said    4 days in advance

13% of you said    4+ days in advance

Unfortunately our practice management  software will not allow us to tailor the timing of an e-mail  for each person at present. We have however discussed having this facility developed with our software suppliers who have responded favourably.  In the mean time as a result of your feedback, we will  introduce the option of an an e-mailed  appointment reminder during  the course of this year. At present we are working with our IT advisors to make sure that the introduction of this service will not expose any of our clinical records to the internet. Only once we are totally satisfied that all necessary measures in place to protect the confidentiality of your records will we take this service live.   Many thanks again to everyone who helped us out by responding to our questionnaire.

What's New In Dentistry?

There is a new material in dentistry called Recaldent. It has uses in treating sensitivity, prevention of tooth decay, and  repairing very early tooth decay without the need to drill. It is actually derived from  milk and can be best described as "liquid tooth." It works by fixing  calcium   to to the bacteria that normally cause decay in your mouth. When an area of the tooth is wakened by decay or acid attack the calcium is released and  available to repair the area. It is safe for use at home, contains no fluoride and comes in 5 great flavours.

Recaldent has been available in the Southern Hemisphere for a few years and several scientific papers have been published confirming its efficacy. It has only recently become available in the UK so we are delighted to be able to offer this to our patients. If you would like to know more about  Recaldent  please ask any member of your team.

One final happy thought, it is believed that one  of the major confectionary manufacturers is trying to incorporate this into chocolate....... just imagine Chocolate that actually repairs your teeth. If they succeed  in this endeavour  we will make sure that you are among  the first to know!

Not So Extreme Makeover

There have  been a real explosion of "makeover" programmes on television in recent months and as a result we have been asked many questions about the dental techniques that have been featured on these shows. As a preventative practice our first priority has and always will be your long term dental health. Once we are sure we have helped you to achieve this  we do however provide a full range of "minimally invasive" cosmetic treatments ranging from tooth whitening, to tooth contouring and porcelain veneers. Our dentists have an extensive photo library of cosmetic treatments that they have personally carried out over the last  15 years since the practice opened which many patients have found invaluable in assessing whether cosmetic treatment is right for them.

If you would like to know more about any aspect of enhancing your smile we have a range of information sheets on the following topics. If you would like to receive any of  these free guides please just tick the boxes below and click on Request.
