Just How Healthy is Your Mouth?

Ever wondered just how dentally healthy you really are? Well we have been asking ourselves (and a few of our patients)  the same question.  After a dental examination we all breath a sigh of relief when we hear the words “no fillings required” or “ your gums look fine”  but  do these words actually tell you how healthy you are compared to last year or the year before? Probably not. During your examination we look at over 100 areas of your dental health so providing a succinct accurate feedback healthy areas of your mouth  has always been harder than talking about the problem areas.

We have been researching ways to give you a more accurate measurement of your overall dental health that will highlight the good areas as well as any areas of concern.

As a result we will soon be introducing our Oral Health Score which is a measure of just how healthy your mouth really is. This will form part of our new Comprehensive Dental Examination.  It is based on research carried out in the UK to find an accurate and succinct way of helping patients to see exactly which areas of their dental health are improving over time.

The hope is that it will  help you to  ensure  that the treatment that we recommend is having a positive impact on your overall dental health.

We will be talking more about this at your future visits when we will introduce the Oral Health Score to you in more detail. In the mean time, if you have any questions please just e-mail us or ask a member of the team.

Some Good News For Smokers!

After a few difficult weeks with the drains outside the practice we have finally got things sorted out, sadly this involved digging up a good chunk of the car park over a  week end.  Last  Sunday evening  I was on my way back check that everything was ready for Monday morning when   I was struck by a series of  strange new sights  as I drove though town. Outside many of the bars, in the rain there were clusters of slightly hacked off looking people, usually with cigarettes in hand. It did occur to   me as I drove that  new health risk from smoking was pneumonia from standing outside in the cold and rain!

From our conversations in practice over the last few weeks we realise that many of you who are smokers have as result of “The Ban” decided to give up. We are always keen to encourage anyone in this direction and as such we have put together a “stop smoking” pack ( no pun intended ) which,  as well as a little advice and help also contains a “surprise gift” for anyone who manages to crack it and give up smoking.

If you are in the practice in the next few weeks be sure to ask for yours, if not enter your details below  and we will send one out to you.

Now we definitely don’t want to discriminate so if you are a non smoker who is now  too curious as to what the “surprise gift” is well go on and click here and we will send you a surprise too.

New Options For Missing Teeth

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing quality dental care under one roof we are pleased to announce that we are now able to provide dental implants. The team have spent more than 8 months training to allow us to offer this option to our patients.  Implants  can be used to replace missing teeth, instead of a denture or a bridge  they can  also be used to stabilise full dentures and make them feel more solid in your bite.

We will include more information on this exciting new treatment in future newsletters however please feel free to visit our web site or better still ask  any member of the team for more information at your next visit.

And Finally................

Congratulations are due to two members of Care Nurse team. Lesley Galway recently passed her Oral Health Educators  examination and Maureen Turner has passed her Dental Radiographers Certificate meaning that she is now fully qualified to take a full range of dental x rays. These qualifications are  both challenging and demanding and are achieved by only a tiny percentage of dental nurses in the UK. Well done to both!

Kind regards
