 Dental First Aid Part 2

Almost all of us suffer from a bump or blow to the teeth at some point during life. In most cases this is during childhood at the toddler stage. For older children or adults playing contact sports is the most likely time to experience a bump or blow. The immediate post injury period is the most critical when trying to achieve a successful outcome. Our simple guide below will help you to do the right thing in an emergency.

An adult tooth has been knocked out

  • If the tooth is clean, replace the tooth in its socket as soon as possible at the site of the accident.

  • use a tissue rolled into a pad to bite on to stabilise the tooth until you can seek dental assistance

  • If the tooth is dirty rinse it in milk or cold water and gently replace it.

  • If you cant push it back store it in milk or saliva and seek emergency dental assistance

  • DO NOT -scrub it or use any disinfectant and don't let the tooth dry out

An adult tooth has been chipped

  • If you can see no bleeding then the tooth will simply need to be dressed by a dentist.  This will prevent bacteria entering the small the small tubes inside the tooth. A long term repair can follow later.

  • If you do see bleeding then there is a good chance that the tooth will require more extensive treatment seek an appointment at the earliest opportunity.

Prevention

  • Custom made mouth guards will prevent most contact sporting injuries to the teeth. They have also been shown to reduce the risk of concussion too. Ask your dentist for more information

Practice Happenings

You will know that we have been keen to develop our practice to allow us to be able to assist you to keep your teeth, gums and mouth healthy, fresh and pain free for life. The only way to achieve this is through preventative dental care.

Whilst we are proud of the level of preventative care that we are providing now, we know that we can make it even better! We are hindered from doing so by lack of space within our existing practice premises at 69 Inchview Terrace. However, the exciting news is that we have managed to secure new premises that will now allow us to provide you with truly excellent 21st century preventative dental care.

We have purchased new and bigger premises in an area about 1 mile from our current site. There are 7 bus routes that stop directly outside and we will even have off street parking for our patients too! More details will follow in our next newsletter.

and finally......

we welcome back new mum  Evelyn O'Farrell who has  re joined us after her maternity leave.
