Many denture wearing
patients tell us that they hope implants will stop their dentures from
moving around and feeling loose when they are chewing, speaking, smiling
and even kissing!
We commonly have a
conversation that revolves around a desire to regain the
confidence to enjoy these activities without always having to worry
about a lower denture moving or an upper denture dropping.
Denture fixatives do help
but many patients have told us that even though these products help hold
upper dentures in place a little better they would still rather not use
a denture adhesive or a denture fixative every day. It is also a well
recognised fact that a denture fixative will add little to a lower
denture that is loose.
The cost of implant
treatments is another significant factor for may patients. The denture
stabilisation route provides a more affordable approach to this type of
treatment as typically fewer dental implants are used and as such costs
are reduced.
Stabilisation of a
problem denture with implants is best suited to full upper or lower
dentures although modern techniques also allow us to look at improving
partial dentures with this technique too.
